The circular economy in UK construction
Sustainable through life. Sustainable at end of life
We’re making our operation more sustainable. This includes individual initiatives across our operation from manufacture to distribution, to lower energy and water consumption and to reduce waste.
Our sustainability strategy
- Lower our consumption of energy, water and raw materials in manufacture to minimise the impact of our operation on the environment
- Successfully connect our sustainability strategy to our operation as a whole, driving up quality and supporting customer service
- Support our customers in doing the same by removing barriers and making it easier for them to recycle post-consumer waste and lessen the environmental impact of their business by improving our logistics operation to make it easier for our customers to take part in recycling schemes.
- Increase our range of products containing recycled material
- Increase the volume of recycled material in our products.

A unique recycling partnership
Our supply chainhip with Profile 22, the Epwin Group and Saint-Gobain to recover and recycle post-consumer glass and PVC-U window and door frames, is also allowing us to bring more recycled material back into use in the products we supply.
It’s a unique supply chain partnership which supports the circular economy while reprocessing and re-extruding material exclusively in the UK.
This includes an ambition to collect in excess of 250 tonnes of PVC-U per year by the end of 2024.

Lowering energy use and wastage in window and door manufacture
We’re working to reduce our environmental impact as part of our continuous improvement programme:
This includes lowering fleet emissions through a major upgrade of our fleet, to using new software to plan routes more effectively, cutting our fuel consumption by up to 10% and taking the equivalent of two vehicles a day off the road.
We’re also investing in new solar panels on top of those we have had on our factory since 2011. These will generate an additional 183,000 Kwh of energy a year.
We’ve also put in place a scrap reduction scheme at the start of this year with the ambition of cutting our manufacturing waste by 50%.
We’re doing this through increased transparency the digitization of our manufacturing process gives us, and the strategic integration of our maintenance cycles to increase our ‘first time through’ rate.
A 40-year partnership with Profile 22
Product guarantees underwritten by the manufacturer
In addition to a 10-year guarantee on profile and glass and two-years on hardware, the Emplas Group underwrites installations by Commercial Window Group installation partners.

Lowering CO2 emissions
We have also committed to lower our carbon footprint and are currently developing a robust process for measurement with a strong focus on lowering our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Steps include new LED lighting, low energy consoles, and a switch where possible to renewable energy including the introduction of new solar panels.
